Prepaid Card

Get more information on the parental features supported by the prepaid cards.

Awesome! You are one step closer to getting your debit cards with Mellow. Once your application is successful, we will mail the cards to your shipping address. Please note that we cannot send the prepaid card to PO Box.
 
It normally takes less than a week for your prepaid card to arrive. Please email us at [email protected] if you haven’t received your debit card after a week.

The prepaid cards with Mellow are usable globally wherever MasterCard®  is accepted, online and offline. However, a few countries or regions are not available to use: Afghanistan, Belarus, Central African Republic, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Eritrea, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Myanmar (Burma), Nicaragua, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela, Yemen, Zimbabwe.

It is a prepaid MasterCard® prepaid card. Unlike credit cards, you can only spend the amount available on the card. There is no overdraft or crediting. The transaction fails when there is insufficient account balance to carry out the transaction. Please note that continuous failing transactions due to insufficient balance will incur a handling fee, and your prepaid card will also be frozen as well. Please refer to the Fee section of our FAQ.

If your child has lost his or her card:
  1. Log on to your parent account
  2. Go to the Settings Page by clicking the Settings icon on the top left corner on the Dashboard
  3. Click “Child Account” and select the account with lost card.
  4. Click the “Freeze Card” button to disable all the functionalities of the prepaid card on that account. 
  5. You can simply click the “Unfreeze Card” button if you are able to retrieve your cards.
If you have lost your card:
  1. Log on to your parent account
  2. Go to the Settings Page by clicking the Settings icon on the top left corner on the Dashboard
  3. Click the “Freeze Card” button to disable all the functionalities of the prepaid card on that account. 
  4. You can simply click the “Unfreeze Card” button if you are able to retrieve your cards.
If you would like to order a replacement card, please contact us at [email protected] Each replacement card costs 60HKD. It will be shipped to you as soon as possible, you will be able to link the new card on your App after you have received and activated it.
You can make the card replacement payment via FPS, Paypal, or Bank transfer.
 

For Tier 1 Cards: 

Maximum card balance: 3,000HKD
Top-ups:
Daily cash top-up limit: 3,000HKD
Annual top-up limit: 25,000HKD
Minimum top-up amount: 100HKD

Spendings:

Maximum annual spending limit on MasterCard® : 25,000HKD
 
*ATM withdrawals, transfers, and card replacement is not available for Tier 1 cards.
 
For Tier 2 Cards: 
Maximum card balance: 50,000HKD
Top-ups:
Daily cash top-up limit: 3,000HKD
Annual top-up limit: 50,000HKD
Minimum top-up amount: 100HKD

Spendings:

Maximum annual spending limit on MasterCard® : 50,000HKD

Transfers:

Single transfer amount: 20,000HKD
Daily/ annual transfer limit: 50,000HKD
For ATM withdrawals:Daily/ Annual withdrawal limit: 8,000HKD
You are only required to provide more personal particulars on the Mellow App in order to unlock more card features. It will take around 10 minutes for you to go through the application process. We will notify you once your card is upgraded.
 
The identity documents required:
  • A valid HKID (Applicable to Permanent Hong Kong residents)
  • A valid Mainland ID (Applicable to China residents)
  • Non HKSAR passport (Applicable to Non-Permanent Hong Kong residents).
For users under the age of 18, their parents are required to carry out the upgrade application. Both the relationship proof (birth certificate) and the identity document of the guardian are required as well.

Mellow strives to uphold the security standards to prevent potential financial crime. Your cards may be locked when there are potential security concerns. The most common reasons for your cards to be locked are:

  • Incorrect Card PIN entered for three times.
  • Consecutively failed transactions due to reasons including but not limited to insufficient balance.
Your card will be automatically unlocked at 00:00 Hong Kong time the next day if it is locked due to incorrect PIN. Please contact us at [email protected] for other reasons, our team will resolve it for you as soon as possible.

The contactless PayPass payment feature is activated after making a payment by inserting your prepaid card into a point of sale (POS) terminal. Then, you are enabled to make payments simply by tapping your card on a POS terminal with the contactless feature.

For contactless payments, there is a limit of 1,000HKD. You can make the payment by swiping the card or inserting it into the POS terminal like a regular card if the transaction is over the limit.
For basic tier 1 cards, you can issue a maximum of three cards under the same mobile phone.

For upgraded tier 2 cards, you can issue a maximum of two cards under the same name, not including replaced cards in case you have lost your card. To issue a third card for your child, you should provide their birth certificate or their HKID, as well as their mobile phone number.

The limit applies to all cards issued under ePayLinks Technology Co. Ltd, such as Neat Limited. If you have issued a prepaid card under Neat Limited before, you can only issue one more card under the same name. Please refer here to view their MasterCard business partners.
This feature is only available for tier 2 cards, please refer to “How can I upgrade my prepaid cards?” in the FAQ section for more information. Please note that there will be a 2% charge or a minimum of HK$25 for ATM cash withdrawals.

In our future update, you will be able to transfer the account balance from your prepaid cards to your bank account.

For cash withdrawals, you can withdraw cash from any ATM machines around the world displaying the MasterCard® logo. Please kindly note that fees apply for cash withdrawals, you can refer to the Fee section for more details.

If you have encountered any issue when you withdraw cash at the ATM machine, it is possible that you have entered the wrong PIN or the withdrawal amount is above our limit. Please make sure that you have entered the Card PIN instead of the Login PIN.
